Tomorrowland is a 2015 American science fiction adventure film directed by Brad Bird. The film stars Raffey Cassidyand Timothée Chalamet with Oliver Platt, Bill Irwin, Jeff Bumstead, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Thomas Robinson, David Gyasi and more. It was released on June 2 by Walt Disney Pictures. The story of Tomorrowland deals with an optimistic young girl who believes in the idealistic concept of tomorrow - a utopian community inspired by the works of Jules Verne - whose quest to find her father leads her to discover a mysterious place called "Tomorrowland" that has existed since the 19th century where robots and other innovations are hidden away from public knowledge.
The film was released on June 2 in the United States in 3D and 2D. It was shown in France at the same day in both French and English dubbed version. A week before released, it screened along with "The BFG" (who were taking screen at the same time) in 635 theaters for around 3 weeks; however, it did not perform well compared to that of "The BFG". The film was projected to gross $38.5 million and finished with $32.9 million, finishing third at the box office. The film was not released in all International markets outside of the United States. Its release was also affected by the June 1 earthquakes in Mexico, which caused many people to stay at home to escape damaged structures and power outages, making it difficult for the film to get a large audience. This allowed "Jurassic World" to have a better opening weekend than initially expected, while "Tomorrowland" opened below its projected opening weekend number. It earned $32 million in China.
The film received mostly positive reviews from critics, with Rotten Tomatoes gave it an approval rating of 70% based on 273 reviews with an average score of 6.
